August 27, 2007Columbia, S.C. August 27, 2007 – Palmetto GBA, one of the nation’s largest Medicare contractors, has been honored for providing outstanding service to health care providers through its Web site, www.PalmettoGBA.com.
The Web site was selected as a Bronze award winner in the Insurance Company category of the Spring/Summer 2007 World Wide Web Health Awards, organized by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC). The awards recognize the best Web-based consumer health information materials and programs from organizations throughout the nation.
Palmetto GBA’s Web site is designed primarily for physicians, hospitals, home health agencies and other health care providers who serve Medicare beneficiaries. It includes information about Medicare, secure services for providers, Web-based training, and other self-help tools aimed at supporting the outreach and education of Medicare providers. Each month, www.PalmettoGBA.com averages more than 5.6 million page views and transmits an average of 1.9 million LISTSERV messages.
“The World Wide Web Health Awards serve as a seal of quality for online health information, and we are honored to receive this recognition,” Palmetto GBA President Bruce Hughes said. “We believe the services offered through our Web site contribute significantly to the positive results we have seen in provider satisfaction surveys.”
HIRC, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials, holds the World Wide Web Health Awards twice each year. The Web awards are an extension of HIRC’s 14-year-old National Health Information Awards, the largest program of its kind in the United States. A panel of international health information and Internet experts judged the Web entries, with scores based on content, creativity and an overall assessment.
