Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals Announces New Board of Trustees

Columbia, SC – August 9, 2007 – The Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals announces the installation of its new board of trustees.  The members are as follows, with elected officers listed first:

J. Michael Kapp, Chairman
J. Michael Kapp is executive vice president of Carolina First Bank.  A graduate of Clemson University, he earned his master’s degree from the Louisiana State University’s Graduate School of Banking, and he is a graduate of the UNC-Chapel Hill Executive Program.  He is treasurer of the Columbia Museum of Art Board and president of the Indian Waters Council-Boy Scouts of America Board. 

Mary Ann Parsons, Ph. D., Vice Chair

Mary Ann Parsons received her BSN and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of South Carolina.  She earned her master’s degree in education from the Citadel and her PhD from the University of Florida.  Parsons currently serves as the director of the University of South Carolina’s BSN year-round rural nursing project, awarded to the college of nursing by the Duke Endowment.  She is the co-author of the fourth and fifth editions of Health Promotion in Nursing Practice.

D. Christian Goodall, Treasurer

D. Christian Goodall graduated from Wofford College.  He is a graduate of Samford University Law School and is currently the chairman and CEO of Continental American Insurance Co.

Goodall is the chair of Providence Hospitals’ finance and executive committees.  He also serves on the following boards: Carolina First Advisory Board, Central Carolina Community Foundation, Association of SC Life Insurance Companies, Project Pet, Wofford College Alumni Executive Council, and the Young Presidents Organization.

Peter M. Brown, Secretary
Peter M. Brown is the vice president of Colite International, Ltd., a manufacturer of retail and corporate identity signage worldwide, offering full-service sign programs including technical surveys, project management, engineering and installations of signs.  He received his BS in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.   

Brown also serves in the following roles:  South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities; Chairman, South Carolina Jobs Economic Development Authority; Board of Directors, Business Carolina, Inc.; President, Board of Directors, Foundation for Columbia’s Future; Chairman, and the Strategic Planning Committee, Saint Joseph School.
