Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals inducted four physicians into the Society of St. Luke

Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals inducted four physicians into the Society of St. Luke, a program that celebrates and honors selected members of the medical staff, at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 22.
Established in 2003, The Society of St. Luke recognizes physicians for their distinguished service to their patients, the mission of the hospitals and their service to the community.
The following physicians were inducted into The Society of St. Luke:
Dr. Gerald J. Wilson, a surgeon with Midlands Surgical Associates, was born in Hartsville. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina, where he was the first African-American to enroll and complete the honors program. Dr. Wilson received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1974. He completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Richland Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Wilson has served as chief of staff, vice chief of staff, and chief of surgery for Providence. In addition, he has chaired numerous hospital committees.
Dr. Wilson was nominated by Dr. E. McIver Leppard for “living the mission of Providence in his service to his patients and the community.”
