Charleston Metro Chamber focuses on key issues in 2019 Legislative Agenda
January 21, 2019With the start of the South Carolina Legislative Session, the Charleston Metro Chamber has released their 2019 Legislative Agenda.
The agenda features 11 priority issues that the Chamber’s Government Relations team will actively work to get passed this year. There are an additional five competitiveness issues which may take longer to accomplish, but are priorities that are still vitally important to the business community.
Among the priority issues are items to further strengthen our support of the military. For instance, fully exempt military retirement benefits from state income tax which would allow our state to be more competitive in attracting retired military personnel who want a second career and have skills that are highly sought by private sector companies.
“Our 2019 State Legislative Agenda focuses on the business community’s top priorities relating to taxes and regulations, workforce housing, state fiscal health, building a skilled talent pipeline and supporting the military,” said Ian Scott, Senior Vice President of Government Relations. “Our goal is to arm our Business Lobbyist, George Ramsey, with a set of priorities that are achievable in this legislative session.”
Every November, the Chamber’s Business Advocacy Committee presents the agenda to the Chamber’s Board of Directors for approval and adoption. The Business Advocacy Committee is comprised of members representing all sectors of the Chamber’s membership.
