Choate Construction provides day of service to the Center for Birds of Prey

Nearly 20 team members from Choate Construction’s Charleston office dedicated Saturday, June 23rd as a day of service, volunteering at the Center for Birds of Prey at the Avian Conservation Center to rebuild a bald eagle flight enclosure. Located in Awendaw, SC, the Center for Birds of Prey is a not-for-profit organization that receives more than 600 injured birds per year and relies heavily on its volunteer basis.
The day of service included rebuilding a decommissioned 12’ x 26’ flight enclosure. After years of harsh weather over the past two decades, nearly half of the 40 total enclosures need repair. These are crucial to the Center because, even after treatment, some injured birds cannot be released into the wild and others may require months of healing and rehabilitation prior to release. With less than a dozen employees on staff and a large volunteer basis, Choate’s employee owners wanted to utilize their weekend and commercial building expertise on a much smaller scale with a very large impact.

Choate’s day of service helped support the Center for Birds of Prey’s mission to identify and address vital environmental issues by providing medical care to injured birds of prey and shorebirds through educational, research, and conservation initiatives.
