Explore Charleston announces the promotion of Marc Gibson and creation of Heart for Hospitality

Explore Charleston is pleased to announce the promotion of Marc Gibson to Director of Inclusion & Engagement. As Explore Charleston continues to grow in the field of Workforce Development with the hospitality industry, this position will help broaden the reach and effectiveness of the Workforce programs. Gibson is celebrating his 25th year with the organization and will continue to oversee day-to-day operations of the Mail Center while assuming his new responsibilities.
“Marc has played an integral role here at the Bureau for the last twenty-five years,” says Chief Executive Officer, Helen Hill. “When it comes to developing and educating our workforce, it is important to remember that this type of work has no ‘finish line.’ Marc’s growth within our own organization will bring a perspective to the team that will allow us to better analyze the needs of workers within the Charleston area as we continue moving forward with this initiative.”
With the addition of Gibson in his new position, Explore Charleston will be embarking on a new initiative called Heart for Hospitality. This program will be developed to cultivate an open and inclusive environment in the greater Charleston hospitality community. To achieve this goal, Gibson will be leading the Workforce Development Team in implementing diversity, inclusion and engagement programs.

As one of the major economic engines in the greater Charleston area, tourism has a $7.4 billion economic impact, and generates an estimated $2.7 billion in total labor earnings.
The goal of the Workforce Development Initiative is to address and find solutions to the challenges faced by hospitality workers and employers in the Charleston area.
