Severance joins MUSC Health as chief of Affiliations and Network Development

Matthew J. Severance, M.B.A., M.H.A., FACHE, joined the MUSC Health team as of Feb. 1, 2018 as the new chief of Affiliations and Network Development. The role is considered critical to MUSC Health’s ongoing efforts to expand access to the clinical, research and educational expertise of the state’s only comprehensive academic medical and health sciences center for health care providers throughout the state.
A senior healthcare executive with deep operational, strategic, and financial expertise combined with extensive experience in multi-hospital, ambulatory, and physician led environments, Severance has a track record of sustained, nationally recognized performance across key industry metrics. Severance was previously employed by the Roper Saint Francis Health system and the Lawrence Hospital Center in Westchester County, New York.

Severance graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor’s degree in science of business, and then completed master’s degrees in business administration and health administration at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He has served on numerous boards locally and at the state level, including the South Carolina Hospital Association (board chairman, 2016), the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, Trident United Way, the South Carolina Hospital Research and Education Foundation, and Crisis Ministries. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a recipient of that organization’s regent’s award.
