Horry County Department of Airports all-time passenger record set at MYR

January 24, 2018

For the third consecutive year, Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) has set a new record for passenger traffic, while surpassing 1.0-million arriving passengers for the first time. Year-ending December 2017 more than 2.27-million total passengers passed through the Airport, an increase of 17.2 percent over 2016.

At MYR, total passenger traffic in 2017, which includes enplanements and deplanements, totaled 2,277,965 compared to 1,942,927 in 2016. The number of people arriving on flights, or deplanements, totaled 1,135,040 compared to 972,041 in 2016. In December 2017, 50,881 passengers arrived at MYR, or 21.9 percent more than December 2016.

“In 2017, Myrtle Beach International Airport welcomed more than 1.0-million passengers for the first time ever,” said Scott Van Moppes, director of airports for Horry County. “The volume of passengers arriving at MYR is the result of the airport serving one of the most popular destinations in the U.S.; however, this success would not be realized without a healthy airline industry and having the right-sized airport facilities. In April 2013, MYR airport capacity almost doubled, increasing from six jet bridges to twelve, while improving the customer experience with more concessions, larger ticketing/baggage areas and more. Looking forward, it is assumed passenger traffic through MYR will continue to increase as demand for the Grand Strand continues to increase. Horry County Department of Airports thanks its airline partners for their continued commitment to our airport and the destination – Myrtle Beach, SC.”
