Unprecedented: Gallivan White Boyd attorneys now head all three major defense bar groups

May 4, 2017

In an unprecedented achievement in the legal field, attorneys with Gallivan White Boyd, recently named ninth largest law firm in South Carolina in Lawyers Weekly, are now simultaneously serving as presidents of all three major defense bar organizations.

John E. Cuttino of the firm’s Columbia office is president of DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar, H. Mills Gallivan of the firm’s Greenville office is president of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and John T. Lay of the firm’s Columbia office is president of the International Association of Defense Counsel. All three attorneys have long and distinguished track records in civil defense litigation and leadership in the civil defense bar.

While the three prominent legal organizations have a combined history totaling 230 years, this is the first time ever that their incumbent presidents have all been from the same firm.  In addition to their unprecedented status as defense bars presidents and firm affiliation, all three attorneys are also alumni of USC Law School.

“We’re very proud of these attorneys and this historic achievement,” said, David Rheney of Gallivan White Boyd. “It is indicative of our commitment to the law, to our fellow attorneys and, most of all, to our clients.”

Gallivan White Boyd is a leading Southeast law firm for business and litigation, with offices in Greenville, Columbia, Charleston and Charlotte.
