Dr. Craig Beeson inducted into the National Academy of Inventors

Honored with Prestigious Recognition for Inventors

Dr. Craig Beeson, President of MitoChem Therapeutics and professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) was inducted into the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), on April 6th. The prestigious ceremony took place during the NAI Annual Conference at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Boston.

Induction as an NAI Fellows is the highest professional distinction reserved solely for inventors from U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutes whose inventions have made significant contributions to economic development, society and quality of life. NAI Fellows were nominated by their peers for their spirit of innovation and outstanding contributions. Dr. Beeson is one of four NAI Fellows in the Southeast Region.

Dr. Beeson’s company, MitoChem, was founded on research conducted at MUSC and has resulted in the development of mitochondria-protective agents for retinal diseases. The company is located at SCRA’s Innovation Center in Charleston, SC and has been an SC Launch Client Company since 2011. He is also actively involved in mentoring startups from MUSC’s Foundation for Research Development.
