SCDOT announces three projects identified for FY 2016 Transportation Alternatives Program

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is providing public notification ofthree (3) projects identified for possible inclusion in the Fiscal Year 2016 TransportationAlternatives Program.

Formerly known as the Transportation Enhancement Program, the TransportationAlternatives Program is a federally funded program that is administered bySCDOT and provides local governments an opportunity to pursue non-traditionaltransportation related activities such as pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities andstreetscaping.  The three projects for consideration include:

Colleton CountyGadsden Loop Neighborhood Pedestrian Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $400,000

  • Installation of ADA compliant sidewalks, detectable warnings, and pedestrian ramps connecting the Black Street Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center.  These improvements would run along Smith Street, Robertson Boulevard, Gadsden Loop and Peurifoy Road in Walterboro.

Orangeburg County Mast Arm Traffic Signal Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $56,000

  • Installation of mast arm traffic signals at the interchange of I-26 and US 601 (Exit 145) Orangeburg County.

Town of Bethune – Bethune Downtown Pedestrian Improvements

Federal Funds Requested:  $400,000

  • Installation of ADA compliant sidewalks and crosswalk signalization at the Intersection of US 1(King Street) and SC 341 (Main Street) in Bethune.
