Columbia lawyers take on key leadership roles for S.C. Association for Justice

Two Columbia Attorneys have been selected to serve in key leadership positions with the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ), the State’s largest Association for plaintiff’s lawyers with over 1,300 members. W. Hugh McAngus, Jr. is now President-Elect and Theile B. McVey will serve as Vice-President.   The announcement was made official at the Association’s annual convention in Hilton Head this past weekend.

“The work of the Association is vital to our system of justice, and it makes a positive difference in people’s lives.  The legal profession is much more than a job to me.   It’s a calling, and I am honored to be part of the leadership team of such an important Association,” McAngus said.

McAngus is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of University of South Carolina School of Law and currently leads Chappell, Smith & Arden’s Litigation team.   His practice focuses on various areas of law, including litigation for motor vehicle accidents, trucking accidents, dram shop, and products liability.  He also serves as South Carolina’s Revitalization Board Member of the American Association for Justice.

McAngus will be working closely with fellow Columbia attorney Theile McVey, who will be serving as the groups new Vice-President.  McVey graduated from Columbia College with honors and from the University of South Carolina School of Law.  She is a partner with Kassel McVey and her practice is devoted to representing plaintiffs.

Theile is committed to the advancement of the legal profession, serving as an active member in the South Carolina Bar Foundation and South Carolina Bar Association as well as on the Access to Justice and Arthurtown Project committees.  Theile has been named as one of the “Midlands Elite” in the area of personal injury in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

“Often clients come to me when they are facing one of the most difficult times of their lives.  My job is to give them and their loved ones quick and fair access to justice. By working with the larger legal community, SCAJ helps so many people in need achieve basic rights under the law,” McVey said.

SCAJ also has a new President.  Lowcountry attorney Alexander B. Cash who takes over as President for R. Alexander Murdaugh whose term has expired, and the incoming Secretary/Treasurer is James “Jay” Ward, of Mount Pleasant.
