Myrtle Beach International Film Festival celebrates eleventh year

11th Annual Myrtle Beach International Film Festival boasts most impressive lineup yet, according to organizers.
The 11th Annual Myrtle Beach International Film Festival (MBIFF), billed as “The East Coast’s answer to the Sundance Film Festival”, has set this year’s Festival dates forApril 20-23, 2016.
Winner of prestigious international and national awards, such as “Top 25 Film Festivals To Submit To In The World”, by Movie Maker Magazine, and recognition as one of the best film festivals in the world, by Film International, the MBIFF call for entry has closed for this year’s event and we can guarantee a phenomenal line up of films will be on the big screen this year.
The MBIFF’s reputation as one of the top venues for showcasing feature films, documentaries, and short films has helped the festival grow, says founder and director, Jerry Dalton. “While we are proud of how international the festival has become, the beauty of expanding MBIFF over the years has also opened a submission category for local and regional student and budding filmmakers, in addition to the outstanding global films we enjoy. It simply is a wonderful opportunity for exposure for our community and artists.”
Attending this year’s event will be filmmakers, industry professionals and several actors from featured films, short films, and documentaries, all of whom will have interaction with the audience in informal “Q&A” sessions following each film. Senior Vice President of Lionsgate Thomas Hughes is tentatively planning to attend this year’s MBIFF. This audience participation will not only provide film industry networking, but will also offer a deeper understanding of the filmmaking craft, from the on-the-screen and behind-the-screen perspective.
There are several World Premiers taking place at this year’s event. Guest speakers such as Jay Alix of Alixpartners and John Smith of General Motors with the film “Live Another Day” a riveting documentary about fall of the auto industry in 2007. Dr. Akoury, Katherine Fee with the film “ADDicted” a film about epidemic of Adderall in colleges. Kathy Tedesehi Daniels and Rosemarie Wolfe with the film “Since: The Bombing of Pam AM Flight 103”, who had family members on Pan AM flight 103. All but a few of the Film Makers will also be in attendance.
Over 80% of last year’s films had at least one if not many attached to the film attend the festival. The interactive setting makes for a unique film going experience.
Thursday night is a meet, great and networking event while enjoying some great Pizza at Ultimate California Pizza Kitchen. In addition, this festival will host dinner on Fri. April 22nd provided by Little Pigs BBQ and beer from New South Brewery. On Saturday evening, April 23rd, wine tasting by Silver Coast Winery along with Sushi provided by Jimmyz Hibachi with entertainment provided by Denny Hess Jazz Trio. At the closing of the event on Saturday evening a gathering after the awards will be held at Sun City Café(801 Main St.) All the food, beer by New South of Friday, wine by Silver Coast on Saturday, and after award gathering is included for the price of the ticket.
