SCDEW appoints chief legal officer and strategic advisor

COLUMBIA, SC – The S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce announced the appointment of Susan Maupin Boone as chief legal officer and strategic advisor to the executive director. Boone will lead the Department’s office of general counsel and appeals division.

Boone has 14 years of experience practicing law in South Carolina and Florida, the last 10 of which were focused in the area of labor and employment law.  She was a shareholder at the McNair law firm in Columbia and counsel at Akerman Senterfitt in Orlando, Fla.  In 2008, Boone transitioned from the practice of law to corporate Human Resources, working in the electric utility and health care industries. Prior to joining DEW, Boone was an assistant director – Business Partner at Lexington Medical Center where she served as a strategic partner to its hospital-owned physician practices.

Boone holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Florida and a juris doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law.  She and her husband, Trey, live in West Columbia.
