James R. “Jim” Fei Receives 2015 ACEC-SC Award for Service to the Engineering Profession

CHARLESTON, SC – Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) today announced James R. “Jim” Fei has been named the 2015 ACEC-SC Service to the Profession recipient.

This annual award, presented by theAmerican Council of Engineering Companies in South Carolina, is awarded to a principal of a member firm who exemplifies the highest level of leadership and professionalism within the engineering community. “It is a privilege to be named the recipient of this distinguished award and I proudly accept it. Thank you to the ACEC-SC for honoring me and for their ongoing dedication to developing and supporting our esteemed community of engineers,” stated Jim Fei, LCE’s Co-founder and Chairman of the Board.

As a supporter of the ACEC-SC since 1981, Fei has been an active participant in ACEC national conferences for a number of years and has been a key contributor and promoter of the South Carolina council. “ACEC-SC is proud to bestow the Service to the Profession award to Jim Fei for his contributions and service to the engineering profession. Mr. Fei founded LCE on the idea of caring about its employees and treating everyone with respect, courtesy and appreciation and it is those morals and his leadership within the engineering profession that we recognize and honor him today,” said Joe Jones, ACEC-SC Executive Director.

Prior to co-founding LCE in 1976, Fei worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor Shipyard and at the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California and would later earn a Master of Science degree in Ocean Engineering at the University of Hawaii.

Fei used his personal principle of “do the right thing the right way” to build a thriving engineering and employee-centric business with ethics at its core. Today, LCE has a workforce of over 600 employees, working out of 10 offices across the United States, that provide engineering solutions for private industry, public entities, government organizations and the military. LCE has been ranked in the Best Places to Work in South Carolina for ten consecutive years and received an Engineering Excellence award in 2006.

Fei has led a number of high-profile projects, including the firm’s initial performance monitoring project on the U.S. Navy’s Ohio-class ballistic missile nuclear submarine. He is a committed member of several engineering organizations, such as ACEC-SC, NSPE/SCSPE, ASME, SAME and ASNE.
