Charleston Port and Seafarers’ Society Now Accepting Donations and Sponsorships for Their Largest Annual Fundraiser

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – The Charleston Port & Seafarers’ Society (ChaPSS) will present the 10th Annual Taste of the World on Thursday, November 5, marking a milestone anniversary for the organization’s largest annual fundraising event. Each year, this event raises thousands of dollars for ChaPSS, a charity that welcomes and serves the needs of thousands of men and women who make their livelihood in the port or at sea.

This year, Taste of the World is moving to the Omar Convention Center at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. The new venue will accommodate up to 800 attendees, who will have the opportunity to sample a variety of international cuisines from some of Charleston’s best restaurants including Brittons BBQ, Coleman Public House, Saveurs Du Monde, Big Game Bar & Grill, and more. Guests may also enter to win prizes and participate in a silent auction. This year’s silent auction will feature items including two six-day African Photo Safaris for two, a one-week stay in Kiawah, a one-week stay in Williamsburg, a dinner cruise for six, gift certificates, artwork, and much more.

ChaPSS is currently seeking businesses interested in sponsoring the event or restaurants interested in donating sample-size portions of food for attendees to enjoy during the event. All donations are tax deductible. Providing food for this event will not only help restaurants expose their business to hundreds of people, but will also help the ChaPSS organization provide service to thousands of seafarers.

Each year, more than 65,000 seafarers arrive on hundreds of vessels to the Charleston Port. Most crews consist of persons from diverse third-world countries and from many cultures. Many are away from home and their families for up to a year at a time. On average, the Seafarer volunteers board 821 ships, serve 5,120 officers and 14,760 crew members in the ministry center, and provide at least 1700 transportation trips to help crew with personal needs.

Restaurants or individuals interested in sponsoring or donating to the event should email [email protected] or call 843-442-1363.
