Fine Craft Shows Charleston Announces 2015 Piccolo Spoleto Crafts Shows Awards.
June 30, 2015CHARLESTON, SC – The 36th Annual Piccolo Spoleto Crafts Shows, held May 22-24 and May 29-31, featured fine weather, great crowds, and beautiful crafts presented by artist from all over the US. The two weekend events held in historic Wragg Square Park in Charleston, featured art by 119 artists from 21 states.
The Judge for both events was Sherry Browne, a visual artist, working paper cut and collage artist, and owner of Studio Open Gallery in Folly Beach, South Carolina. Awards were distributed on Friday of each weekend.
Charleston Mayor Joseph Riley helped distribute the awards for the May 22-24 show. Award winners were:
City of Charleston Mayor’s Award (Best in Show): Nancy Michael-Susaneck, a Mixed Media artist from Missouri City, TX; 1st Place: Addelle Sanders, a Fiber artist from Charleston, SC; 2nd Place: R. L. Brethauer, a Mixed Media artist from Savannah, GA; 3rd Place: Maggie Joynt a Jeweler from Hope Mills, NC. Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Christie May, a Jeweler from Greenwood, IN; Craig Riches, a Metalworker from Silverhill, AL and Leslie Peebles, a Printmaker from Gainesville, FL. The Exhibitor’s Choice Award was voted to Justin Brady, a Woodworker from Bell Buckle, TN, and the Emerging Artist Grant went to Melina LaVecchia, a Potter from Boone, NC.
Purchase Awards were given to:
Molly Griggs and Lindsay Powell, a Fiber artists from Charleston, SC; R.C. Brethauer, a Mixed Media artist from Savannah, GA; Susan Marling, a Fiber artist from Acworth, GA and Doug Richard, a Woodwoorker from Satsuma, FL.
Show Judge Sherry Browne distributed the awards for the May 29-31 show. Award winners were:
1st Place: Kevin Duval, a Metalworker from Wilmington, NC; 2nd Place: Mimi Hay, a Fiber artist from Myrtle Beach, SC and 3rd Place: Sabra Richards, a Glassmaker and Metalworker from Worton, MD. Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Jiri Kalina, a Woodworker from Wilmington, NC; Nancy Green, a Potter from Watkinsville, GA and Honey McCrary, a Mosaics Artist from Mt. Pleasant, SC. The Emerging Artist Grant was awarded to Jan Barco, a Leatherworker from Virginia Beach, VA. The Slide Juror’s Choice Award went to Tanya Gerard and Rob Thomas, Woodworkers from Beech Mountain, NC and the Exhibitor’s Choice Award was voted to Lucy Clark, a Potter from Clear Mountain, NC.
Purchase Awards were given to:
Jiri Kalina, a Woodworker from Wilmington, NC; Craig Riches, a Metalworker from Silver Hill, AL; Uzo Ezekwudo, a Fiber artist from Chapel Hill, NC and Hanan Ingel and Erez Epshtein, Jewelers from Berkeley, CA.
