Horry County Department of Airports Reports Myrtle Beach International Airport Aces Annual FAA Inspection

June 3, 2015

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) passed its annual FAA Part 139 Certification Operations Inspection with no discrepancies.

Annually, MYR and other commercial service airports nationwide are required to undergo an extensive inspection of safety records, emergency operation manuals, meetings with airport management and on-site checks by a team of federal inspectors to assure the airport is in compliance with its certification manual and operating certificate. Included in a FAA Part 139-Certification and Operations Inspection is a review of:

  • Operations and maintenance records and logs
  • Movement area inspection
  • Airport rescue/firefighting equipment, training and response times
  • Airport emergency plan
  • Operations/maintenance personnel training and performance
  • Paved/unpaved safety areas and runway approaches
  • Markings and lighting
  • Fueling facilities inspection
  • Airport’s self-inspection program

After careful inspection of the airport and a thorough review of each item contained within the Airport Certification Manual, the FAA found MYR to be a safe, efficient and a well-run operation. “We commend you for the procedures you are using in the day-to-day- operation of the airport. The appearance of the airport indicates they are effective,” stated Herman L. Smith, III, Airport Certification and Safety Inspector.

“This year, MYR passed the inspection with no discrepancies… an impressive statement and testament to the hard work and dedication of the operations professionals who maintain the airport year-round,” stated Pat Apone, Director of Airports.
