SC’s Popular LiveLifeBlue Photo Contest Returns for a Second Year

January 21, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC-  BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s LifeLifeBlueSM photo contest proved to be so popular in 2014, it will return this year as a quarterly contest for residents of the state.

“We had fun with it and people all over the state seemed to enjoy it, so we plan to continue this year with even more prizes. It’s a great way for members to express what health and wellness mean to them,” said BlueCross Senior Vice President Matt Shaffer. “Separately, we also recognize companies that have stepped up to the challenge of promoting a healthier workplace with our business LiveLifeBlue awards that will be presented in March.”

Over 600 photos were submitted to the public contest, and the healthy selfie photo gallery was viewed more than 10,000 times. Submissions came from throughout the state, and winners included residents from Columbia, Aiken, Greenville, Townville, Saluda, Charleston and Lexington.

Prize packages in 2014 were donated by BlueCross accounts and other organizations. Last year’s winners went to the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, the Columbia Museum of Art, the South Carolina Jazz Festival in Cheraw, the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden in Columbia, BMW Manufacturing’s Ultimate Driving Weekend in Greer, and Columbia’s Famously Hot New Year celebration. One winner got a cooking demonstration from chef Alex Suaudom du Monde.

The December theme was “What Puts a Smile on Your Face?” The winner was Salley Rickenbacker of Columbia, who will receive a gift basket, including admission tickets, from the Biltmore House and gardens in Asheville, N.C.

In 2015, the photo contests will take place on a quarterly basis, beginning in April. In addition, brief LiveLifeBlue challenges will be announced on the company’s Facebook page throughout the year, allowing South Carolina residents to comment on a post to win prizes.

BlueCross also offers its large group accounts (50 or more employees) a chance to win an annual business LiveLifeBlue award for their creative promotions of wellness in the workplace. The companies are nominating their programs now, and two companies in each of the Upstate, Midlands/Pee Dee and Coastal regions will be announced as winners in March.

The public LiveLifeBlue contest is a free, Facebook-based photo competition for South Carolina residents, ages 18 or older. Participants shoot a “selfie” or have a friend photograph them performing a featured wellness activity. They submit by uploading to their personal Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account using #livelifebluesc, uploading directly to the LiveLifeBlue contest on Facebook, or emailing to [email protected].
