Taylor Drayton Nelson, 11th generation member of the Drayton family, and board member of Magnolia Plantation, talks about the challenges of reinterpreting a Charleston classic for the 21st Century.
The family has always felt as though they are caretakers of the site – which has, rather unusually, been in the family since 1680, or thereabouts.
How do you interpret a place such as Magnolia Plantation for the modern age? How do you handle historic restoration, and explain a site such as this to 150,000 visitors a year?
