CHARLESTON, SC – August 15, 2012 – SCRA’s R&D Facilities sector, which manages SCRA facilities and leasing, today announced a new tenant in its SCRA MUSC Innovation Center. The History Press will lease space in the Center, located on Meeting Street. Completed in December, 2009, the Innovation Center is a state-of-the-art research and business facility that currently houses nine area technology companies.
The History Press is one of the fastest growing publishers in the United States. The Charleston office currently employs 35 personnel, with a goal to employ 70 by 2018. The company is focused on continuing to expand the reach of its digital business in a publishing industry that has seen explosive growth in the production and sales of digital media, including e-books, over the last five years. The History Press’s electronic media portfolio has grown substantially in the last 12 months and the business plans to increase that rate of growth as quickly as possible. “We are very excited about this opportunity to continue developing the business in the state-of-the-art Innovation Center space,” said Director of Operations Andrew Patterson.
“We welcome The History Press and look forward to a long-term relationship as they grow their technology-based, e-publishing business in South Carolina,” said SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. “We appreciate their commitment to growing jobs in the area and advancing South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy.”
