Bill Gibson Joins Baker Buick GMC Cadillac as New General Sales Manager

15 year car veteran’s longtime dream was to join the Baker team
CHARLESTON, SC – July 17, 2012 – Tommy Baker, owner and president of Baker Motor Company in Charleston and Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Baker Buick GMC Cadillac in Charleston, SC, announced today that Bill Gibson has joined Baker Buick GMC Cadillac as the dealership’s new general sales manager in July 2012. A Lowcountry native, Gibson brings 15 years of management and sales expertise to Baker Buick GMC Cadillac’s established brand. As the new general sales manager, Gibson will oversee all sales and customer service operations at the dealership.

The Beaufort native started his automotive career in 1998 at Butler Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Beaufort, S.C. as a sales associate. “It’s funny how my automotive career started. I was a project manager for a construction company, and I had injured my leg. I met Mr. Butler [owner of Butler Chrysler Dodge Jeep] in the office where I was getting physical therapy, and he hired me shortly after. I have been part of the automotive industry ever since, and I love it.”
In July of 2002 Gibson joined O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln Mercury as general sales manager. He oversaw all operations at O.C. Welch Collection, the company’s pre-owned dealership in Savannah, G.A., and also managed the used-car operations at the company’s three other dealerships in Beaufort, S.C. and Savannah, G.A. He later joined New River Auto Mall in Hilton Head, S.C. when it first opened and helped to launch the Nissan and Infiniti dealerships. He started as the Nissan general sales manager and was then promoted to the used car director for the entire group. Before moving to Charleston, Gibson was the general sales manager at Gerald Jones Volkswagen Audi in Martinez, G.A. He made the move in August 2011 when he joined Morris Nissan in Charleston, S.C. as the general sales manager.

After living in Beaufort for majority of his life, Gibson and his wife, Ester, now reside in Charleston, S.C. They met when they were in high school, and then later reconnected in August of 1999 at the Beaufort Water Festival. They have been together ever since and have five boys together: Andrew, 21; Danny, 19; Joseph, 11; Joshua, 4; and Benjamin, 2. Gibson looks forward to serving Charleston residents with superior customer service as general sales manager at Back Buick GMC Cadillac.
