Gov. Nikki Haley announces Shane Ray as State Fire Marshal
June 4, 2012COLUMBIA, SC – Governor Nikki Haley today announced Shane Ray asState Fire Marshal. Chief Ray has 26 years of experience in fire andemergency services. For the last seven months, Ray has served as theSuperintendent of the South Carolina Fire Academy.
Gov. Haleysaid, “We’re thrilled that Shane Ray has agreed to serve as FireMarshal. His experience ensuring the safety of our community and meetingthe needs of our fire service members make him a great fit.” Prior tohis work with the South Carolina Fire Academy, Chief Ray was Fire Chiefof the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department in Tennessee. During histime at Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, he was named the FireChief Magazine Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year. He also served asMayor of the town of Pleasant View, Tennessee for six years (1998 –2004) where he was responsible for management, administration andoperations.
Chief Ray also participated in the Harvard, John F. Kennedy School ofGovernment’s Local and Elected Officials Program in 2003. He is agraduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program.
