Mount Pleasant’s Oldest Florists Blossoms into the Holiday Season with New Location

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – December 5, 2011 – Mount Pleasant’s oldest and first florist, Belva’s Flower Shop is proud to announce their expansion in to a new location at 1409B Stuart Engals Boulevard behind Glasspro in Mount Pleasant. As a mainstay on Coleman Boulevard since 1956, this family-owned florist originally opened by Belva Williams has helped the Lowcountry celebrate special occasions, mourn the loss of loved ones and create unique arrangements for local weddings.

After 55 years at the Coleman Boulevard location, third-generation family members Alex and Chris Williams, Belva Williams’ grandsons, saw the need to expand after the blossoming of online ordering and the ease of social media. A larger space also allows Belva’s to better serve the community and gives walk-in customers a more hands-on experience with ample parking.

Belva’s now has even made ordering flowers via the internet as easy as the click of a mouse and  arrangements are now available to purchase on the Belva’s Flower Shop Facebook page at facebook.com/BelvasFlowerShop.

With our expansion in the new space, it gives us the opportunity to keep changing with the times and more room. We have gone from a small, sleepy flower shop to a worldwide florist receiving orders from Russia, Germany, Australia and other countries around the world. Much of our ordering comes from online orders and we want to make buying flowers from a local florist as easy as possible. We’ve been going local for 55 years and we hope our community will continue to let us be a part of their celebrations and special occasions.” said Alex Williams, “Flowers are a joy to people and at the end of the day, flowers do make a difference.”

Trained in floral designing in Denmark, South Carolina in the 1950s, Belva Williams opened the doors to her shop in 1956 and was the first florist in the East Cooper area. Belva ran the store until 1975 and a Williams family member has always worked in the store. Today, Belva’s grandson, Chris manages the shop. Life has always revolved around flowers in the Williams family and Belva’s is the epitome of a Lowcountry family tradition.

Belva’s Flower Shop is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. but guests can order online or on Facebook 24 hours a day.
