Verizon Wireless Supports USO South Carolina to Recognize and Thank Troops for their Service

COLUMBIA, SC – November 11, 2011 – In conjunction with Veterans Day, Verizon Wireless and USO South Carolina announce today their partnership to show appreciation to members of the United States military. The partnership between Verizon Wireless and USO South Carolina provides 150 Hold Over troops from Fort Jackson an all-expenses paid trip to watch the Charleston Stingrays hockey team take on the Gwinnett Gladiators on Dec. 20. The evening event will further honor the Fort Jackson-based troops with a ceremonial first puck drop, “fan tunnel” during player introductions, troop rides on the Liquid Box Fan Zam during the first and second intermissions, and recognition throughout the game.
“Verizon Wireless knows that our troops make important sacrifices for our country and its people throughout the year,” says Jerry Fountain, president of the Verizon Wireless Carolinas and Tennessee Region. “Veterans Day is the perfect opportunity to honor theses amazing men and women of South Carolina who serve our country each and every day.”
The mission of USO is to support and lift the spirits of U.S. troops and their families. The Columbia, SC USO offers a variety of programs and services designed to offer a comfortable and compassionate atmosphere for troops on holdover. “The USO South Carolina is excited to partner with Verizon to show our appreciation of the commitment and dedication these men and women give our nation,” says Joanie Thresher, director of USO South Carolina.
The USO South Carolina provides a “home away from home” for more than 6,000 service members and their families on a monthly basis.
