Graduate student leadership development seminar set for Sept. 22

September 19, 2010

The Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics and The Citadel Graduate College will host the second annual Citadel Graduate College Leadership Seminar on Sept. 22, 2010.

Last year, the seminar hosted more than 50 student delegates from the College of Charleston Graduate School and The Citadel Graduate College. This graduate seminar, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mark Clark Hall, returns because of strong graduate student participation in The Citadel’s Principled Leadership Symposium held each March and to provide graduate students with additional leadership learning opportunities at The Citadel.

We are expected to be the leaders of tomorrow in our respective industry and in our community, said Jim Cissel, an MBA student at The Citadel. To become a leader of tomorrow, we need to work on our leadership skills. One thing we do here at The Citadel is present a Leadership Seminar that allows students to learn to be a leader outside the classroom.

The theme for this year’s event is Leading and Communicating in Challenging Times and features two keynote speakers: Gregory Bulanow, chief of the North Charleston Fire Department, and Miranda Sevcik, a former television news producer and anchor and founder of Media Masters, a firm that helps lawyers communicate with media in high profile cases. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to assess their leadership skills and actively participate in group decision making exercises and case study reviews.

I was impressed by how much the 2009 seminar applied to my career track, said Amanda Helton, a master’s in public administration student at the College of Charleston. I felt very involved during the seminar and definitely took home an abundance of information to think about. I hope in the future more graduate students from College of Charleston will attend to benefit from this opportunity,

For more information and registration is online at www.citadel.edu/krause-center. The seminar is free but reservations are required because seating is limited.
