Keep Charleston Beautiful Receives $10,000 Community Improvement Grant from UPS Foundation

CHARLESTON, SC – May 26, 2010  – Keep Charleston Beautiful hasbeen named as a recipient of a $10,000 community improvement grant fromThe UPS Foundation. Nationwide, 16 Keep America Beautiful (KAB)affiliates received the merit-based grants supporting programs thataddress litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling, beautificationand community greening.

Keep Charleston Beautiful will use the awarded funds to expand its GreenSpaces Recycling program into 5 City parks: Bayview Soccer Complex,West Ashley Park, James Island Recreation Center, Bees LandingRecreation Center, and Harmon Field. The Green Spaces Recycling programlaunched last Fall with the placement of receptacles in Hampton Park,Marion Square, Waterfront Park and White Point Gardens. As in theinitial phase the recycling receptacles will be installed next tomatching waste bins and will be clearly marked for recycling. Thisprogram is made possible with the help of Charleston County’s Departmentof Solid Waste and Recycling who assist by providing and servicing arecycling drop-site for the City’s Department of Parks.

Keep Charleston Beautiful is committed to promoting the cleanliness andbeautification of the City of Charleston through education, awarenessand community involvement. The Green Spaces Recycling Program reducesthe amount of waste created in our City’s parks by providing convenienteasily recognizable recycling stations to all park visitors.
