Graham Displays South Carolina Student Art Exhibition

March 16, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC – March 16, 2010 – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) recently welcomed representatives from the Columbia Museum of Art to his Washington office to help display works of art from students across South Carolina.  This is the first cooperative effort between the Columbia Museum of Art and a United States Senator.

“I am so pleased to be a part of this inaugural effort to bring a little bit of South Carolina to Washington,” said Graham.  “These students have really done remarkable work.  The walls of my office now showcase some of South Carolina’s best talent.  I couldn’t be more proud or appreciative of the students’ work.”

“The students’ work is a testament to the educational impact that the Museum has on the lives of South Carolinians,” said Karen Brosius, Executive Director of the Columbia Museum of Art.  “The teachers should be commended for their commitment and creativity in planning and promoting this project.  Neither the students, nor the teachers, will never forget this opportunity.

Dorman High School, Gilbert High School, and West Ashley High School were selected to participate in the Museum’s “Wachovia Interactive Education Gallery”.  The Museum staff worked with the art educators to create work based on Ansel Adams ‘Masterworks’ collection.  The black and white prints – which feature a photographic exploration of various South Carolina landscapes – will be on display in Graham’s Washington office for one year.

Additional Comments from Dorman High School

It was a real honor for my artwork to hang at the Columbia Museum of Art.  Now, to have my work and my classmates’ work hanging in Washington for the next year, makes us all feel special to be a part of this show.

My students were very inspired by the photographs of Ansel Adams.  We discussed how they could use that inspiration to capture their own successful photographs of the Upstate.
