Electrical Construction Apprentices to Compete at Trident Technical College
February 13, 2010CHARLESTON, SC – February 10, 2010 – Electrical construction apprentices will display their skills in installing electrical components and circuitry at the Electricians Competition and Career Fair to be held on Trident Technical College’s Main Campus (behind Building 920) on Saturday, March 6, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The community is invited to attend and observe free of charge.
The competition will allow high school students and first-, second-, third- and fourth-year electrical construction apprentices to compete with the skills they have gained through practical experience and classroom instruction with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Additionally, employers from the tri-county area will be on hand to discuss career opportunities for electricians. This event is co-sponsored by Trident Technical College and the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association (CECA).
A registered apprenticeship program is a paid, in-house training program that combines classroom instruction and on-the-job training. Working in accordance with standards set by the company and approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, an apprentice earns a nationally recognized certification as a Journeyworker upon completion of the program. More than 1,000 occupations qualify for apprenticeship training.
