Harry A. Huntley, CPA, Named Executive Director at JEDA

CHARLESTON, SC – December 8, 2009 – Harry A. Huntley, CPA, has been named Executive Director of the South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA).

Perhaps now more than ever, helping entrepreneurs gain access to capital is crucial to the economic development and financial well being of the State of South Carolina, Huntley said.

Huntley had been the elected auditor of Richland County from 1989 to 2007. He also is executive director of Invest SC Inc., the designated investor group for the South Carolina Venture Capital Authority.

Huntley is a University of South Carolina graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration, a certified public accountant and a married father of four children. Harry serves on the board of the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the South Carolina Administrative and Regulatory Law Association.

In succeeding the late Elliott E. Franks, III, Huntley becomes only the second leader of JEDA since its creation in 1983. The organization serves to assist in the financing of South Carolina’s economic development projects by funding public & private partnership initiatives such as manufacturing, healthcare and non-profits. In addition, it is required that all JEDA-financed projects create new jobs or retain existing jobs in South Carolina, ultimately leading to creating a stronger, more vibrant economy statewide. JEDA is directed by a board comprised of representatives from each of South Carolina’s six congressional districts.

For more than 25 years, JEDA has promoted the business and economic welfare of South Carolina by assisting in the financing of public and private projects throughout the Palmetto State. JEDA serves as a statewide conduit issuer of special obligation revenue bonds and acts on behalf of the borrower to access financial markets and capital. Since its creation in 1983, JEDA has issued 400 bonds for over $6 billion in South Carolina’s economy, resulting in the creation of more than 25,000 new jobs.
