Pat McDermott of The Beach Company Elected Member of AICPA Council
October 27, 2009CHARLESTON, SC – October 23, 2009 – Pat McDermott, treasurer and controller of The Beach Company has been elected by the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA) to serve as its elected member to the governing Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). His three-year term will begin in October 2009. McDermott will act as one of only two representatives for the state to serve on the council.
The AIPCA governing Council is comprised of 263 representative members from every state and American territory, and it represents approximately 330,000 licensed CPAs. The Council provides national leadership for the CPA profession and is responsible for setting policies and procedures and enacting resolutions binding on AICPA Board of Directors, officers, volunteer groups and staff.
The SCACPA is a voluntary membership organization of approximately 3,900 CPAs in South Carolina who work in public accounting, industry, government or as educators. It provides continuing education and support to all CPAs, whether in public practice, industry, government or education, with lifelong learning opportunities necessary for their success, the promotion of high ethical standards and legislative advocacy for both the public good and for the profession.
