Myrtle Beach, South Carolina’s Dunes Village Resort Receives Industry Certification For Green-Clean-Safe Program

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – October  26, 2009 – Dunes Village Resort announced today that it has been industry-certified for its Green-Clean-Safe Program, as designated by The Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association. To receive this environmentally-sensitive certification, area resorts much achieve a total of 990 points during inspection. Dunes Village surpassed that, receiving a total of 1,424 points.

The resort, a newer construction, has many green initiatives already in place, such as:

  • Maintenance checklists to include air filter changes and smoke alarm battery changes
  • A bath towel and bed sheet reuse program
  • Resort chefs who now thaw frozen meat in the refrigerator rather than soaking it in running water
  • Replacement of standard light bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs

The hotel’s Fire Safety Plan and Hurricane Evacuation Procedures were also provided to the Hospitality Association for certification assessment. Recently, 85-95 percent of the hotels’ employees attended Pan Flu/Health Hands program meetings and professional security is in place at all times.

I’m very much a proponent of recycling and going green, said Harold Barrett, General Manager of the Dunes Village Resort. The Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association’s Green-Clean-Safe Program and its initial requirements for going green have dramatic effects on the environment and we encourage other hotels to join the Green-Clean-Safe initiative. Relatively simple practices will make a big difference.

The Dunes Village management and staff of this nationally recognized and award-winning resort continually strive for improvement and 100 percent guest safety and satisfaction.
