2nd Annual SC Survivor Summit – April 12
March 6, 2019Survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence are standing up boldly, using their platforms wisely and tapping into their strong and powerful voices like never before. In the world of the #metoo movement and in light of recent stories of survivors of R. Kelly, one Midlands non-profit organization seeks to make a difference.
Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th, The Hive Community Circle hosts its 2nd annual SC Survivor Summit, a two-day event hosted at EdVenture Museum, downtown Columbia. Over the course of the two days, professionals in the field of sexual violence, women’s rights and victim advocates along with survivors will be able to participate in workshops and learn from leaders in some of the following topic areas: Trauma Informed Self-Care for Advocates, The Power of the Voice Behind the Story and Debunking the Stigmas of Mental Health & Therapy.
The Hive Community Circle Executive Director, Ashley Thomas had this to say:, “
“So often when we think about interpersonal violence it is through a linear lense. However these are epidemics that impact us all rather it’s directly or indirectly. We all know of someone who has been impacted by interpersonal violence. In order for us to advance our efforts we must center the voices and experiences of the most marginalized survivors such as women and girls of color, and the LGBTQIA+ community, and work as a collective recognizing that it’s all On Us! The SC Survivor Summit is an annual statewide initiative that aids us in accomplishing this mission. “
