A Cultural Celebration of Trees On Display at the Fine Arts Center

December 3, 2015

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is pleased to host a unique display of Christmas trees decorated in styles representative of several cultures. A Multi-Cultural Committee driven event, the trees represent how different cultures may decorate trees in their home country in celebration of the season. The display will open at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 10 just prior to the Chamber Music Concert featuring Edward Arron and Friends. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Decadent Dish, along with a sample of Sallie’s Greatest’s Poinsettia Punch while you enjoy the Celebration of Trees.
With the help of art teachers Julie Magee, Elena Gaston and Marti Wallace, these art students, who all have varied cultural backgrounds, produced many of the ornaments which will be on display on the trees located in the Bassett Lobby and Library at the FAC. Participating students are from Camden High, Camden Middle, and Jackson Elementary Schools. One of the trees, the Asian culture tree is decorated by the Cheung family, owners of Ginza Restaurant (Ana and her children Tiffanie and Andrew Cheung.)

“The Multi-Cultural Committee would like to extend to the community an invitation to view the wonderful expressions of the holiday season displayed at the Fine Arts Center,” said Tim Hopkins, committee member and Executive Director of Instruction at the Kershaw County School District. “These trees were decorated by adults and students in our community who wanted to share their family traditions at this time of the year. The tree decorations represent the multicultural diversity of our community and stimulate joyful emotions. The trees are gorgeous!”

The trees will remain on display in the Bassett Lobby and Library through December 19.
