Bragg, a regular columnist for Southern Living and Garden & Gun whose All Over But the Shoutin’ was a New York Times bestseller, will partner with King Conroy, accomplished novelist and widow of beloved SC author Pat Conroy, to captivate guests with entertaining remarks as they both offer a book signing for their highly-praised works.

Bragg and King Conroy will share with attendees how being distinctively Southern has impacted their writing. “The South has produced more than its share of fine authors,” said Kathie Bennett, president of Magic Time Literary Publicity. “Southern authors truly enjoy a very special storytelling ability that draws their audiences in and holds them close. As evidenced by the tremendous success they have achieved, readers have discovered that Rick and Cassandra are both blessed with this unique gift as well as a great generosity of spirit.”
“We are so honored to have such celebrated authors as Rick Bragg and Cassandra King Conroy to donate their time to benefit the brave children we serve,” said Laura Allen, CCP Executive Director.
The February 1st fundraiser follows a year of dramatic expansion for CCP. Started in 2001, CCP grew from a project of the Spartanburg Breakfast Optimist Club. The organization first existed to help families in Spartanburg County, SC but has now expanded its reach to encompass families throughout all of North and South Carolina.
Children are referred to CCP by social workers at their pediatric oncology treatment centers. After identifying specific needs, CCP continues to partner with them throughout their childhood cancer journey until the child reaches the age of 21. The nonprofit provides transportation, food and lodging for families who travel great distances to obtain the lifesaving treatment their children need.
“We recently changed the name of our organization to express clearly our service to the entire Carolinas, where over 600 new pediatric cancer diagnoses are made each year,” explained Allen. “Our mission remains the same – getting all children to lifesaving cancer treatment regardless of family circumstances.”
