About the musical
Known as the first rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar was first created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent ’60s. Jesus’ rise to fame seems parallel to contemporary celebrity worship of today. As his radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, Jesus, which ultimately ends in betrayal. Christ’s final days are dramatized with an emotional intensity, and an edge that is thrilling and thought-provoking. The production is enhanced by a very stirring score, giving it a spirited passion that goes straight to the heart.
