Bobbitt breaks ground on new John Harris Body Shop headquarters

Bobbitt Design Build recently began construction on the future 14,897-square-foot corporate headquarters for John Harris Body Shop at 111 Evergreen Drive in Irmo, which sits prominently on a 2.30 acre lot off Interstate 26 at Lake Murray Blvd.
Veteran- and family-owned since 1975, John Harris Body Shop will utilize the facility to centrally run operations for its seven current locations. The two-story structure will feature approximately 2,032 square feet of office space on each floor. To create public appeal, several different wall systems, panel profiles, overhangs, canopies and storefronts will be incorporated into the project.
Insurance carriers have continuously requested that owner John Harris build a shop in this area. Harris decided to undertake the project and designate the structure as the company’s new corporate headquarters. During the project inception phase, Bobbitt was selected to work alongside the architect, LTC Associates, to maintain a strict budget. Under these guidelines, several different design scenarios were completed before a façade was designed that met the owner’s requirements.
The most challenging part of the project may prove to be the pouring of the building pad. The project site sits on red clay, and work is halted for days or weeks when it rains. Once the pad is in place, the project will move quickly.
Construction is expected to be complete in July 2016. John Harris Body Shops have been serving the Midlands’ auto body repair needs for over 40 years.
