Bringing Medical Device Concepts to Reality: EngenuitySC’s Science Café with David Huizenga

COLUMBIA, SC – How does groundbreaking medical technology become realistic commercial opportunities? David Huizenga, co-founder, President and Chief Technology Officer of TAO Life Sciences, will discuss his expertise in the commercialization of innovative technologies. His talk, titled “IP Commercialization: Bringing Medical Device Concepts to Reality”, will be presented by EngenuitySC’s Science Café, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Speakeasy lounge in Columbia, S.C.

As President and Chief Technology Officer of TAO Life Sciences, Dr. Huizenga works closely with physicians and researchers from various universities and companies to turn new medical concepts into reality by collaborating with technology transfer offices to help patent their technology, as well as providing his expertise on how to manage their resources. Dr. Huizenga is focusing on developing technology that is specifically emerging in South Carolina through SCTAO, where he is currently collaborating to develop nine new medical device opportunities.

Dr. Huizenga has accumulated over 15 years of experience in assisting scientists and professionals in Fortune 100 companies and top academic institutions translate their cutting-edge technology to realistic commercial opportunities by providing his know-how in design engineering, scientific direction, business tactics and legal strategies.

Before joining TAO Life Sciences, Dr. Huizenga served as Chief Technology Officer for Zirus, Inc., where he developed and implemented the company’s science, patent and business strategies. Previously, he served as Vice President of Venture Investments at Needle & Rosenberg, P.C., the largest IP boutique in the Southeast at the time, where he focused on small biotechnology and pharmaceutical opportunities and companies.

Dr. Huizenga earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics from Harvard University as well as a J.D. with honors from Emory University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry at the University of San Diego.
