Cantina 76 expands to Mount Pleasant, 5th location for S.C.-based restaurant

April 2, 2018

Independently owned, Mexican-inspired taqueria and bar Cantina 76 will open its fifth full-service location in Mount Pleasant. This is the South Carolina-based restaurant group’s second location in the Lowcountry, following the opening of its fourth location on Kiawah Island in 2017.

Cantina 76 serves an affordable assortment of imaginative tacos, dips and other taqueria favorites, as well as an extensive selection of signature hand-crafted margaritas. Executive Chef David Grillo sources fresh and local produce with a significant portion of the menu being made with S.C.-grown ingredients, varying based on what is in season.

The 3,477 square-foot space features indoor, patio and bar seating with the bar extending into the patio. Guests can enjoy an upbeat, contemporary atmosphere whether they sit indoors or outdoors.

Conveniently located between Shem Creek and Sullivan’s Island, the Mount Pleasant location is expected to be a favorite for local residents and beach goers alike. The affordable price and lively atmosphere makes Cantina 76 a go-to location for nearly any occasion.

“The Mount Pleasant location will be an ideal spot for families, individuals or groups of friends that are heading to Sullivan’s Island and want to grab a quick meal on the way or stop by after a long beach day for dinner and drinks,” says Rob Ward, Co-owner of Cantina 76.

Cantina 76’s Mount Pleasant location will be the fifth for the S.C.-based ownership group. Co-owners Jeb Babcock, Chad Elsey, Rob Ward and Craig Wyatt founded Cantina 76 in 2009 with a location in Columbia, S.C. The group has since expanded to include a second Columbia location, as well as one in Greenville, S.C., one in Kiawah Island, S.C., and now the Mount Pleasant restaurant.

“We’re very excited to open our second location in the Charleston area,” says Chad Elsey, one of four co-owners of Cantina 76 and a native of Johns Islands, S.C. “We have grown up coming to Charleston and visiting friends and family around the area. We hope this new location will become a favorite spot for locals and out-of-towners alike.”

Popular menu items at Cantina 76 include their chicken teriyaki taco filled with grilled onions and topped with feta crumbles and a sweet sesame chili sauce; the roasted chicken quesadilla drizzled with a sweet and tangy ancho-BBQ sauce; and shareable dips like their fresh, house-made guacamole. They are also known for their selection of signature margaritas, some of which feature agave nectar for light sweetness, alongside fresh touches of lime, basil and muddled fruits.

The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Cantina 76 Mount Pleasant will be located at 819 Coleman Blvd. Hours, menus and more can be found at www.cantina76.com.
