Chernoff Newman celebrates big wins at regional award ceremonies

April 24, 2017

Chernoff Newman came away with wins at this year’s Spark! Awards, presented by the Charleston American Marketing Association (Charleston AMA) and the District 3 American Advertising Awards, hosted by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The Southeast based agency won the Best Logo Design award for its work for the Charleston International Airport at the Spark! Awards, and the group won a Gold ADDY® for Piggly Wiggly’s Big Pig 100 Campaign.

For its Spark! Award winning campaign, Chernoff Newman was charged with revitalizing branding elements to the newly renovated Charleston International Airport, which has grown to serve nearly 3.5 million passengers per year. The agency sought to reflect the storied city’s past and its bright future in a logo that is distinctly Charlestonian. The award-winning design has been implemented throughout the airport. A social media campaign, traditional and online advertising were also updated with the new brand.

Charleston AMA recognizes excellence in area marketing professionals with the annual Spark! Awards. The event is an evening of networking, food and fun and culminates with the awards presentation.

For its District Gold Addy Award, Chernoff Newman was tasked with creating an integrated campaign to celebrate 100 years of business for Piggly Wiggly, which opened in 1916 as the first ever self-service grocery store. The agency focused on the history of the company and the grocery industry, using shelf “talkers,” private brand packaging, point-of-sale materials and 100 days of social media content to increase brand awareness and affinity.

The American Advertising Federation hosts the American Advertising Awards each year, a three-tier creative competition put on to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. The gold award is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the category. The “Big Pig 100 Campaign” will move on to the national competition, hosted in New Orleans in June.

“The most essential ingredient of great marketing communications work for a company such as ours is great clients,” said Peter Wertimer, Chernoff Newman president of advertising. “They count on your ability. They have faith. They let you take risks. And then you have a chance to create inspired work which brings outstanding results. The credit goes to Piggly Wiggly and the Charleston County Aviation Authority for these wonderful awards.”
