Davis & Floyd named finalist and wins Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina

During the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) Engineering Excellence Awards gala, Davis & Floyd, Inc. was named an ACEC Finalist and received an Engineering Excellence Award for their work on the S-31 (York Street) bridge replacement in Aiken, South Carolina.
After completing a routine bridge inspection, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) found that S-31 (York Street) northbound and southbound bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad were structurally deficient and needed to be closed immediately. SCDOT asked Davis & Floyd to design a replacement bridge on an accelerated schedule. The design was completed in under four months and construction of the two bridges took less than a year. These are the first wooden deck bridges designed for SCDOT.
Engineering Excellence Award entries are given in 12 project categories. A distinguished panel of judges ranks the projects from throughout the state based on uniqueness and innovative applications; future value to the engineering profession; perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owner’s needs, including schedule and budget.
The team was recognized at ACEC-SC’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards gala at the Columbia Museum of Art on Feb. 6.
