Davis, Majidzadeh join S.C. Sea Grant Consortium staff

March 14, 2019

Two new staff members have joined the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium: Marlena Davis as human resources manager and Hamed Majidzadeh as coastal environmental quality specialist.

Davis has 15 years of HR experience in the health care, education and hospitality industries. She also has worked as an airline customer service representative and as a music teacher in schools. Davis grew up in Charleston and earned a bachelor’s degree in music at Furman University. She provides music instruction, specifically in strings, for children and adults at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

In her position at S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, Davis will manage human resources for the agency, including updating personnel records, benefits administration and serving as a backup for accounts payable and receivable.

Majidzadeh’s expertise is in water quality, hydrology and data analysis. He earned a doctorate in biogeochemistry from Auburn University’s School of Forestry in 2016. Majidzadeh’s doctoral work dealt with effects of urbanization on soil and water quality. During postdoctoral studies at Clemson University, his research focused on how extreme rainfall events affect watersheds with various land uses and on the impacts of hurricanes and wildfires on source- and drinking-water quality.

In his position at S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, Majidzadeh will work closely with state natural resource managers, community groups, scientists, universities and decision-makers to develop, implement and manage an applied environmental quality research and outreach program. He also will facilitate the S.C. Stormwater Pond Research and Management Collaborative.
