Dominion Energy donates $10,000 to SC Alive at 25

November 20, 2017

The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation awards $10,000 to support teen driving awareness through Alive at 25, a defensive driving course from the Southeastern Chapter – National Safety Council (SCNSC).

Alive at 25 is an innovative intervention program that teaches young drivers the behaviors and skills they need to become responsible drivers. The program is instructed by certified first-responders and is offered in 130 South Carolina high schools.

“Dominion Energy and the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation are proud to support Alive at 25 for the second year in a row,” said Laura Comstock, Dominion Energy Carolina Gas Transmission Manager Regulatory & Operations Support and SCNSC Board Member. “Teen traffic incidents and fatalities are an epidemic in our state, and we are excited to help deliver the Alive at 25 program to students in Spartanburg. We want our youth to make the right decisions behind the wheel, and Alive at 25 gives them the tools and knowledge they need to make the right choices.”

Dominion Energy’s grant supported the implementation of Alive at 25 in Spartanburg High School where 239 students received Alive at 25 training free of charge, and seven law enforcement officers instructed the course. Moving forward, all students will be required to complete Alive at 25 before receiving their parking permit to drive on campus.

“We are incredibly grateful for Dominion Energy’s support,” said Jody Jernigan, Chief Executive Officer SCNSC. “Their generous gift allowed us to bring Alive at 25 to students at Spartanburg High School, a school that previously did not offer defensive driving training. SCNSC has a “Goal of Zero” fatalities and aims to deliver the Alive at 25 to all teens. Community partners like Dominion are instrumental in educating our youth and saving teen lives.”
