Midlands Gives Nonprofit registration is now open for 2019 18-hour online giving day to be hosted by Central Carolina Community Foundation on May 7, 2019

September 28, 2018

Central Carolina Community Foundation — the Midlands’ center for philanthropy — has launched nonprofit registration for Midlands Gives. The annual online giving challenge returns on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, again headquartered at the South Carolina State Museum. New this year, the giving day will run on an 18-hour schedule, from 6:00 a.m. – midnight, allowing the Community Foundation to focus efforts into a shorter and more efficient time period than the former 24-hour schedule. Nonprofits can register for Midlands Gives until January 15, 2019 at http://www.MidlandsGives.org.

“Throughout the five years during which our organization has powered Midlands Gives, we have been gathering feedback from participating nonprofits and supporters alike,” says JoAnn Turnquist, President and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “We have been listening, and we are pleased to share that we are shifting to a convenient 18-hour schedule for the Midlands Gives 2019 giving day.”

Since its start in 2014, Midlands Gives has raised more than $7.25 million for local nonprofits. In 2018, the fifth anniversary of Midlands Gives raised more than $1.75 million for 372 organizations via 14,665 individual donations, exceeding all prior year records. Hundreds of nonprofits across the 11 counties in the Midlands have raised much needed funds through Midlands Gives over the past five years to amplify their impact, administer vital public services, and boost the quality of life in the community.

The giving challenge will again be administered using the CiviCore online platform, a simple, user-friendly online donation website that has run smoothly over the past two years. As always, after a 2.1% credit card fee and 2.8% technology fee from CiviCore, 100% of each contribution goes to the donor’s selected nonprofit. Donors also have the option to cover the fees for their gifts. 71% of donors covered their gifts’ fees in 2018.

Midlands Gives is one of the hundreds of independently organized giving days across the nation. Last year, 39% of donors in 2018 gave to a nonprofit for the first time, and every nonprofit that participated received at least one donation.

Nonprofit Registration Is Easier than Ever
This year, the registration process for nonprofits has been simplified to encourage increased participation.

Returning nonprofits are preapproved, and no training is required. Nonprofits that are new to Midlands Gives must fill out the online application and attend one mandatory “Midlands Gives 101” in-person training session, which will help nonprofits meet or exceed their fundraising goals. Eligibility requirements and registration information can be found at http://www.MidlandsGives.org.

How Individuals Can Get Involved
Community members can help by sharing this opportunity with their favorite local nonprofits and encouraging them to register for Midlands Gives at http://www.MidlandsGives.org. For those with adept communication skills, consider volunteering for a preferred nonprofit to assist in their social media outreach and fundraising efforts leading up to May 7, 2019. Local nonprofits are regularly looking for volunteers to help amplify their efforts.

Become a Corporate Philanthropy Champion
Each year, our community’s giving is amplified by the generous corporate and community partners who provide matching gifts, prizes, bonus pools, and gift amplifiers on Midlands Gives day. These partners help catapult the growing donations during Midlands Gives into major milestones, and the incentives provide a great opportunity to engage the public to become “everyday philanthropists.” Corporate and community partners can start making plans now to get involved and can contact the Foundation at 803.254.5601 if they are interested in becoming a Corporate Philanthropy Champion.
