The Adjutant General of South Carolina to promote S.C. State Guard Commander to Major General

COLUMBIA, SC – Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, the adjutant general of S.C. will promote Brig. Gen. Thomas S. Mullikin, commander of the S.C. State Guard (SCSG), to the rank of major general during ceremonies this Saturday, Dec. 5, at the historic Olympia Armory in Columbia.

Brig. Gen. Mullikin and the SCSG received unprecedented recognition for their efforts during the recent flooding disaster in S.C.

The all-volunteer SCSG is part of the S.C. Military Department, which includes the S.C. Army and Air National Guard, the Emergency Management Div., and other elements. The SCSG operates only within the state and in a support of the S.C. National Guard, the state’s various law enforcement agencies and other state, county and municipal agencies during times of emergency. The SCSG is overseen by the S.C. Military Dept. under the direction of the adjutant general of S.C. The commander in chief of the S.C. Military Dept. is Gov. Nikki Haley.
