United Way of the Midlands calls for volunteers to support hunger relief for adult seniors with limited access to resources

June 18, 2018

Seniors are experiencing hunger and food insecurity in Fairfield, Newberry, Orangeburg and Richland counties and United Way of the Midlands has asked the community to help.

“Senior meal delivery doesn’t take a break or go on vacation during the summer, and volunteers are a crucial part in making sure home-bound seniors have access to food,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “By working together, with our volunteers and partner agencies, we can provide seniors the meals and services that allow them to be healthy and independent in their homes and communities.”

Volunteers will lead the mission to increase seniors’ access to food and decrease isolation, as well as other related conditions that affect seniors’ optimal health and well-being.

United Way has coordinated with its community impact partners Senior Resources, Inc., Fairfield County Council on Aging, Newberry County Council on Aging, Orangeburg Council on Aging to provide meal delivery volunteer opportunities from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. every day through June.
