ArtFields Jr. highlights student viewpoints

May 23, 2019

The ArtFields Jr. Art Competition featured works from three Lexington County School District One schools and their talented artists.

As part of the annual ArtFields festival in Lake City, the competition accepts work from South Carolina students in grades 1–12. A review panel judges all submitted artwork, with select pieces going on display during the festival. Judges score students on creativity and originality, quality of composition and overall design, technical ability, and overall impression of the art.

This year’s ArtFields Jr. exhibit displayed 24 works from Meadow Glen Middle, River Bluff High and White Knoll High artists.

MGMS’s Juliette Behrends won third place in the middle school division, while fellow MGMS student Alyssa Kenneda won the Student’s Choice Award for grades 7–12. RBHS’s Jarrett Rose won a Merit Award for grades 9–12.

Other students who earned a spot in ArtFields Jr. include MGMS’s Yoshi Chilukuri, Holly Duncan, Liwá Hamidi, Lane Heldreth, Kaylee Keisler, Emily Looper, Alex Lyons, Lana Maas, Krystal Quesenberry, Chloe Shoultz and Samantha Tan; RBHS’s Taylor Caldwell, Claire Floyd, Judy Fourie, Mallory Graham, Piper Kroll, Emily McKinney and Hirelis Rodriguez Torres; and WKHS’s Logan Jones and Mary Ray.
