The mission of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance is to reduce the impact of cancer on all South Carolinians. The Alliance relies on active involvement by individuals and organizations statewide to assess priorities and to develop, implement, and evaluate the success of its projects.
The SC Cancer Alliance recently completed a 20-year study of cancer trends in South Carolina and their work in cancer prevention and research. The news is good. Death rates for cancer are declining across the board, except for melanoma. Their focus going forward is health equity. African-American men are being diagnosed and dying from cancer at higher rates than white women.
