Non Profit Minute – Ashley Demosthenes, Lowcountry Land Trust
July 31, 2019
The Who’s on the Move, BizSC, Non Profit Minute is a quick, two-minute interview in support of the amazing impact that local non profits have on our communities.
We would like to thank our sponsors of this video series:
Ashley Demosthenes, President & CEO, Lowcountry Land Trust
In 1985, Lowcountry Land Trust (LLT) was born through a small local effort to conserve a scenic 20-acre island in the Stono River. Since that time, LLT has evolved into the most successful regional land trust in SC and one of the leading local land trusts in the nation.
Their goal is to preserve our unique sense of place and quality of life through land protection, volunteer opportunities, and community conservation. In cooperation with landowners, they have permanently protected more than 143,000 acres through conservation easements. Their goal by the end of the year is 150,000 acres!
Through their Soul of the Lowcountry program, they connect volunteers to the land through hands-on projects like construction of living shorelines and cleanup of the Angel Oak Preserve. They protect iconic landmarks and landscapes that ultimately will be accessible by all through our community conservation efforts. These projects bring people and place closer together to protect the Lowcountry for future generations.
