Richland Two proposes rezoning for Jacobs Creek and Forest Creek

October 30, 2019

Richland Two district administrators are proposing to rezone Jacobs Creek and Forest Creek subdivisions from Catawba Trail Elementary to Bookman Road Elementary.

The families directly impacted by this proposal were notified by email on Friday, October 18, 2019. The rezoning proposal was presented for first reading during the public session of the Richland Two Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. If this proposal is approved by the Richland Two Board of Trustees at the November 12 board meeting, the rezoning change would go into effect at the beginning of the 2020–2021 school year.

Richland Two district administrators are asking the community for feedback on the proposed rezoning. On November 7, 2019, a public community meeting will be held at Bookman Road Elementary School. At 6 p.m., district administrators will provide a brief presentation on the rezoning proposal. After the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to view maps of the proposed attendance lines, discuss the proposal/ask questions with district administrators and complete feedback forms. Parents and students will also be able to learn more about Bookman Road Elementary.

Parents can also provide feedback using an online form. Click here to access the form.

District administrators began considering the proposed rezoning after reviewing current enrollment data and trends for the two schools. The area zoned for Bookman Road consists of established neighborhoods and has no known areas of proposed residential development. Catawba Trail Elementary’s attendance zone is projected to continue to grow based on the permitting of new residential homes and available vacant property. District administrators also considered the proximity of the subdivisions to Bookman Road Elementary and the potential for improving car and bus transportation routes.
